Ten journalists from print, electronic and online media outlets have been awarded Tourism Fellowship-2017 for their significant contributions to tourism sector’s development and encouraging others to help policymakers take the right steps through objective reporting on the growing sector.
Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) and Aviation and Tourism Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) jointly arranged the fellowship programme.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon handed over certificates and cheques (Tk 60,000 each) at a function held at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Sunday.The fellowship recipients are Tareque Moretaza (The Independent), Sohel Hossain Patwary (Daily Sun), Ishtiaq Hussain (Dhaka Tribune), Monjurul Islam (Bonik Barta), Shafiullah Sumon (BTV), Rita Nahar (Boishakhi TV), Julhas Kabir (RTV), Niyamul Sadeque (SATV), Shafique Bin Saad (Channel 24) and Chowdhury Akbar Hossain (Bangla Tribune online).
Minister Menon appreciated the journalists’ efforts in unfolding both achievements and lacking in the country’s tourism sector through their objective reporting which he thinks will help the government take proper policy initiatives.
He urged all to play an equal role in promoting tourism sector and ensuring better contributions to the national economy.
BTB chief executive officer Dr Md Nasir Uddin, acting tourism and civil aviation secretary Md Emran, BTB director Nikhil Ranjan Roy, Editor of the Bangladesh Monitor Kazi Wahidul Alam, ATJFB president Nadira Kiran and general secretary Tanzim Anwar also spoke on the occasion.
